THE KINGDOM OF VALDEMAR
The kingdom of Valdemar was created by Mercedes Lackey, an author who has written many, many books. I plan to have put up information such as a timeline, map, songs, and other great things printed in the books, eventually. I'm sorry there's not much here right now. ^^;

The kingdom of Valdemar was founded by King Valdemar, and is unlike any other kingdom because of it's Heralds and Companions. The first Companions, which are intelligent beings that are physically like pure white horses that can run much faster and longer than regular horses, who each Choose a Herald. The Heralds are messengers of the king/queen of Valdemar, and go through the kingdom bringing news, settling disputes, spreading justice. To be Chosen, one must be the kind of person who knows what is right, and can't sstand by watching someone else hurt another. They care about people, and cannot hurt other people. This ensures justice in Valdemar. They also must have some degree of mind-magic, such as the ability of mindspeech, fetching (the ability to move and summon things), etc. All Heralds must also be able to perform at least the first level of the Truth Spell. In Vanyel's time, many were also mages. The ruling monarch must be a Herald, as must be the Monarch's Own. The Monarch's Own is someone for the queen or king to trust completely, and confide in, which makes them a better ruler.
